Movie Review: Megamind

Megamind is mega fun.An action-packed, wisecracking animated film that turns superhero tale upside down. Without a superhero, there’s no purpose for a supervillain (what a concept!) So the villain, Megamind, creates a superhero to justify his existence, and, of course, along the way to win over the love of his life. I was hook and smiled the whole way through, regardless the familiar plot points after the fantastic setup. I’m not a big fan of Will Farrell, sick of seeing him in silly movies than anything, but Megamind has given him a new devilish twisted persona. The rest of the cast is excellent. Tina Fey, the love-interest reporter, is tough, funny, and sarcastic, and her comedic timing proves that she’s one of the funniest leading ladies in Hollywood. David Cross, as Minion the fish, is so slimy the sidekick; he steals every scene he’s in. The melodramatic goodbye before he takes his last breath makes me laugh out loud. Megamind also has style. The drawings are simple and flat; yet conjure up a modern and sophisticated world with characters that stare at you with big, wondrous, Japanese anime eyes. I was thoroughly entertained.
