This sequel in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy smolders even before the first arrow is shot by Jennifer Lawrence.  The plot begins to heat up by the second hour with the goodness in the arena only to douse viewers with an abrupt ending.  Moviegoers who’ve read the original novel or saw Part 1 will enjoy this Quarter Quell nearly as much as I value my NFL Sunday Ticket on DIRECTV.  However, if you’ve done neither you’d be wise to seek the library now or rent the introductory ‘The Hunger Games’ that precedes ‘Catching Fire’. This film doesn’t have the novelty, plot development, or suspense that the first ‘Games’ brought to the big screen. But ‘Catching Fire’ accomplishes its primary goals; continuation of the storyline and setting up Part 3 in the future.  Sequels are difficult to meet expectations of repeat viewers and even more difficult to draw in first-time audience members.  If you can’t “Remember who the enemy is” I’d recommend hitting the bookshelves or renting the first chapter before seeing this film...failure to do so may make you want to rebel against the ‘Games’ altogether.  Grade: C+
