The First Encampment
Blake Cortright
The First Encampment is a half hour documentary about the first Boy Scout camp in America, which took place in 1910, at Silver Bay, YMCA of Adirondacks, in upstate New York. Using early 20th century photos, and accompanying modern footage and interviews, the video gives historic information about the founders of the Boy Scout movement in America and this first gathering of the pioneers of American Scouting. Historical figures such as Sir Robert Baden Powell, William Boyce, Edgar Robinson, Ernest Thompson Seton, Daniel Carter Beard, and James West are presented in this film, which was first broadcast on Public Television in the summer of 2010. The entire project was produced, directed and edited by a 15 year old Eagle Scout.
