Golden Globe 2012 gold for The Artist

globes2012_dujardin.jpgDugardin - Variety "The Artist" pulled no surprises Sunday tonight in wining three Golden Globes, including best actor for Jean Dujardin, best comedy or musical and best original score for Ludovic Bource.

Ricky Gervais presented the awards for the third year running and managed to take a swipe at everyone in earshot, including the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Other major awards from the HFPA went to "The Descendants" for best drama with George Clooney winning best drama actor. Meryl Streep bagged her eighth Golden Globe, winning best drama actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady" and Michelle Williams won for musical and comedy actress in "My Week With Marilyn."

Big gun directors were winners tonight with Steven Spielberg winning best animated feature for the "Adventures of Tintin," Martin Scorsese for "Hugo" and Woody Allen for best screenplay for "Midnight in Paris."

In supporting roles, Christopher Plumber won his first Golden Globe for  "Beginners" and Octavia Spencer for "The Help."

Other film awards went to "The Separation" for best foreign language film and Madonna for best original song for "W.E.'s" "Masterpiece."

In television, "Downton Abbey," "Modern Family" and "Homeland" went home with gold. Best acting trophies went to Claire Danes for "Homeland," Matt LeBlanc for "Episodes," Laura Dern for "Enlightened," Idris Elba for "Luther," Jessica Lange for "American Horror Story," Peter Dinklage for "Game of Thrones" and Kate Winslet for "Mildred Pierce."
