'Safety Not Guaranteed' but Laughs Promised

Safety Not Guaranteed was inspired by this actual classified ad placed in the 1997 September-October issue of Backwoods Homes Magazine by John Silveira:

What humor and joke Mr. Silveira started with his magazine publisher/friend continues in this time travel comedy.  This movie version portrays a beat reporter in Seattle enlists two interns to help him track down the peculiar person who placed the off-the-wall classified ad.  What makes this film so enjoyable is that while the main plot unfolds between Mark Duplass’ and Aubrey Plaza’s characters, several smaller, just as unique and funny, subplots take place to help balance the storytelling by director Colin Trevorrow in his first feature film.

This movie will leave you shaking your head, laughing out loud, and smiling from ear-to-ear.  Great writing still needs a great cast to close the deal with viewers--and this film has ample portions of both.  It's part comedy, part romance, part sci-fi and even has a snippet of suspense added into the mix.  From the producers of Little Miss Sunshine, Safety Not Guaranteed earned top honors at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival for screenwriting.

The focus of the movie remains steady on time travel but without the insomnia-curing scientific formulas of Stephen Hawking's wormholes or Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity.  Instead, Duplass' character Kenneth, keeps his time machine and methods secret until the film's dramatic ending.

FOUND: My favorite movie of 2012. This is not a joke. You'll get many laughs from a very fine cast. Must bring your own open-mind. SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED. I have only done this once before...Grade: A+.

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) is Rated R.  Running time - 1 hour, 26 minutes.
