Movie Fan Profile - Mike 'The Movie Guy' Pierce Mireles

Mike-The-Movie-Guy-Pierce_-_Copy_1.jpg

Mike ‘Pierce’ Mireles joins us as the featured movie fan this week. He's  been in the industry for about 15 years now. Mike started in radio at the age of 25  in Houston at a station called, Kiss 98.5 Kiss Again 103.3. I was the afternoon show producer and then later hosted my own weekend 'after hours' mix shows. I did that for a couple of years and then jumped into the record business. I helped start a label called, Latium Records (which is now Latium Entertainment). He believe the station was the first Latin label in Houston that tried bringing Latin Hip-Hop together in the early 90’s. After being there for a couple of years, I decided to leave and get back into radio and  started working for 100.7 House Party, which later turned into Party 104.9 – He emcee’d / hosted at several clubs here in Houston. I then got the chance to be the night jock at a Hip-Hop station in South Texas. He did that for 3 years and got the opportunity to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico to further my radio career…but decided to stay in Texas…which meant he had to leave radio. So he did.

That’s when the movie business came knocking at my door. He moved back to Houston and started working with a promotional/marketing agency based out of Los Angeles. Mike did everything that major and independent film studios needed to promote their films. After doing that for 5 years – he decided to leave and start his own entertainment ‘Mike’ blog.  He's not your typical ‘movie critic’… just someone who loves movies and reality TV. If he's not blogging – you can always find him rocking the mic with my DJ’s.

Q. Was there a particular film that sparked your interest in writing about movies? If so, what movie and why?

A. Not really. I’ve always been a fan of movies. I just thought it was time to start blogging about them.

Q. What is your most memorable movie moment?

A. HA! That’s a good one. Watching The Lost Boys on the big screen as a kid. I thought it was awesome…and still do. As a kid…I wanted a dog like Nanook, a motorcycle, and long cool hair.

Q. Movie theater or home...where do you prefer to watch movies?

A. I actually watch more movies at home, but you can’t compare a theater sound or get the same ‘audience feel’ at home. Certain movies…you HAVE to watch in the theater. But with the ongoing talking, texting, idiots in theaters makes me lean towards home. LOL Why can’t movie theaters install headphone plugs?! That would be awesome.

Q. What is your favorite movie quote?

A. “Heeeeerrrreeeeee’s Johnny” from 1980’s The Shinning starring Jack Nicholson.

Q. How many movies do you think you’ve watched in your lifetime?

A. WHOA! A lot.

Q. What movies are you most looking forward to seeing in the remainder of 2012 or in 2013?

A. Playing for Keeps, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Zero Dark Thirty, Jack Reacher, Django Unchained, Texas Chainsaw 3D, Gangster Squad, Mama, The Baytown Outlaws, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Bullet to the Head, Beautiful Creatures, Warm Bodies, A Good Day To Die Hard, Snitch, Oz: The Great and Powerful, Carrie, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Iron Man 3, The Great Gatsby, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Fast and the Furious 6, Man of Steel, Monsters University, The Wolverine, Thor: The Dark World, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire…that’s some for starters.

Q. What type of movies are you typically drawn to and why?

A. I like all types. If it grabs my attention…I’ll watch it. But if I had to pick one type…it would be horror. I just love a good scare.
