10 of the Most Memorable Rain Scenes in Movies

Some of the most memorable scenes in the movies are those set in the rain. Rain doesn’t seem to dampen the love between two lovers and has a way to  heighten the anger between rivals.  To celebrate some of the best rain-soaked scenes in the movies, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorites. Be sure to share your favorite rain-filled scenes in the comments below.

The Notebook

One of the most romantic rain scenes on film, The Notebook shows love can survive just about anything – even a downpour.

Singin’ in the Rain (1952)

Gene Kelly made dancing in the rain look cool and fun.  This movie is the one that comes to mind on any rainy day.

Road to Perdition (2002)

The rain is relentless in this American crime film directed by Sam Mendes and starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law.

Hard Rain (1998)

A 1998 thriller, disaster movie featuring  Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater, the epic downpours will leave you feeling drenched.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

An epic hurricane driven rain adds to the drama in Wes Anderson’s latest film, Moonrise Kingdom.

Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Another memorable, rain scene in which Mr. Darcy makes an unsuccessful proposal to Elizabeth.

The Outsiders (1983)

The fight scene between rival gangs in the movie The Outsiders makes you feel the chill of the rain not too mention the rage between gang members.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

The scene where Tim Robbins enjoys the rain as a free man is one of my favorite rain scenes in film.

Magnolia (1999)

Ok so it's not just rain falling from the sky, but frogs as well.  Who can forget a scene like that?

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

The Battle of the Helms Deep goes down as one of the greatest movie battles of all time and it just happens to be in the rain.
